When exploring, you need to carry:
- Machete
- Axe
- Food [2 stacks of 12]
- Extra Clothes
- Saddles
- A Whistle
- Compass
The rest of your inventory should be empty. This way, you can collect fur, leather, pumpkins, etc. You may even find a mountable companion, which is why it is important to keep saddles and a whistle with you. A compass should really be kept on hand at ALL times, but especially when you are going on a long exploration.
When mining, you need to carry:
- Machete
- Pickaxe
- Food [2 stacks of 12]
- Compass
A machete needs to be kept in case you run into a bear or hyena in a cave. Food in case you go hungry, and a pickaxe for obvious reasons. The rest of your inventory needs to be kept empty for cobblestone, ores, etc. You need as much space as possible when mining. No ore left behind!!
Clothes are not as important though. You're not going to freeze to death underground with magma!!
When hunting, you need to carry:
- Stone Chunks [same weapon power as a diamond tip arrow]
- Bow and arrows [if desired]
- Machete
- Horse and whistle [optional]
- Food [2 stacks of 12]
- Extra clothes
- Compass
Throwing stone chunks at an animal is just as effective as hitting them with a diamond tip arrow. So since they are easier to come by, I suggest using those. But you can also use a bow for long distance hunting if desired :)
If you like to hunt by horseback, bring a horse and whistle, or course. A machete is for close range fighting, and the compass to find your way back home.
I hope this helps everyone manage their inventory space a bit :) I had trouble with space when I first started playing!
It's good to keep everything in organized, labeled chests too. You can label them with signs. Ex: one for food, paint, wood, coal, etc.
